Opinion
Imagine that God revealed himself to us, all of us. Now, imagine the surprise and then the anger of those atheists who campaigned aggressively against religion in all its forms and expressions. I believe that is what we have been seeing since the election of President Trump. First surprise at the defeat of Hillary Clinton and then anger as the nation flourished as it hasn’t in decades. By every objective measure, it’s as though the people, the economy, industry, agriculture, and all the rest breathed a sigh of relief as taxes were lowered and oppressive government rules and regulations were extinguished.
Only those who continue to cling to false hope and ill conceived ideology in the face of the success of their opposition, also cling to their hate and anger.
Basically, everything we see happening today, all of the good things, low unemployment, exceptional economic growth, heightened consumer confidence fueling it all, all of these things were promised by the progressive Left. However, as the Left occupied and came to command the Democratic party, and then the halls of power in cities, states, and the nation’s capital, all these things receded with every passing day. And when we look at the cities still under their pall, we see a persistent blight that not even the best national recovery can dent.
Even before President Trump took office, the Left and its shills in the news and entertainment media have predicted disaster. They are like Baghdad Bob who stood in Tehran proclaiming the defeat of the Americans even as American tanks rumbled through the streets of that city pursuing the fleeing remnants of Iraq’s vaunted Republican Guard.
In desperation, the Left now promises to expand their radical agenda if returned to power. They have ripped away the mask from their agenda and we see them openly calling to replace our free market society with the tyranny of socialism. Yes, socialism is what they’ve been promoting all along and tyranny is their weapon of choice.
These are the words of a tyrant
I will be watching the elections this year with interest, not fear. In 2016, I felt like a death row inmate who received a last minute reprieve and my sentence was commuted. I happened to be attending a VFW meeting when the results of the day's polls were being posted. My smart phone sat on the table at my side and I glanced now and then as a man condemned to die listens for the approaching footsteps of his executioner. As the evening progressed I was surprised but held my hope in check. Then, as state after state fell into President Trump’s column and the electoral votes accumulated, I began to allow a glimmer of hope to illuminate my soul.
No, President Trump was not my first choice. Nor my second, third, fourth, or fifth among the lengthy GOP roster. However, when faced with the ultimate choice, I voted “Not Hillary” and hoped for the best. In the months following his inauguration, I have been as surprised as any at the progress that the nation has made. I suppose that is a testament to the fact that I had lost faith in We the People after decades of political failures. Apparently, We can still be trusted to rule ourselves. President Trump may be many things, many cringe-worthy, but he is no tyrant.
I hope that we continue to allow ourselves this freedom after November...
